Lighting Requirements
• Full Sun to Partial Shade: It tolerates partial shade (2 to 6 hours of direct sunlight a day) but will not reach its peak performance.
• Optimal Exposure: To grow at its absolute best and maximize summer blooms, locate this plant in full sun (6 or more hours of direct sunlight daily).
Soil Preference
• Moisture & Drainage: Strongly prefers moist to occasionally wet conditions. It naturally grows in bogs, swamps, wet meadows, stream banks, and shore areas. It is completely intolerant of dry conditions.
• Texture: Highly adaptable across clay, loam (silt), and sandy soil textures.
• Acidity: Prefers acidic (<6.0) to neutral (6.0–8.0) pH levels.

• Larval Host: Functions as a critical larval host plant for the Spring Azure (Celastrina ladon) butterfly as well as various native moths.

• Pests & Diseases: Typically low-maintenance and free of serious issues. However, it can occasionally be affected by leaf spot, powdery mildew, fireblight, aphids, and scale insects.

• Sensitivities: The shrub is uniquely sensitive and intolerant to high heat and will suffer if exposed to hot, baking environments.
