Light Requirements
•    Shade Tolerant: Highly tolerant of shade for an ornamental grass.
•    Thrives in part sun to part shade (2 to 6 hours of direct sun) or dappled sunlight through an upper canopy.

Soil Preference
•    Prefers moist to wet, well-drained soils.
•    Accommodates clay, loam (silt), and sand textures.
•    Naturally handles moist to occasionally wet drainage conditions but is intolerant of highly acidic soils.

•    Larval Host: Critical host plant for the caterpillars of the Northern Pearly-Eye butterfly (Lethe anthedon) and several skipper butterflies.

Note on Management: It can become aggressively weedy and invasive in small gardens because it spreads quickly via underground rhizomes and heavy self-seeding.
