'Potomac' ® has an upright growth habit that tends less to spreading than other cultivars. This tree boasts large to very large fruit. It has been noted by some to be prone to cracking (after heavy rain preceded by dry periods) and has moderate to low yields. Some feel this is outweighed by the very large fruits this tree consistently produces. Like, 'Susquehanna' ®, it is the progeny of David Fairchild's 1916 National Pawpaw Contest's winning fruit, which was submitted by Mrs. Estella Ketter. Comes in a 1 gallon pot, plant is 1-3ft.
Fruit: Large to very large (12oz. or greater) with a firm, smooth texture.
Seed: only 4% by weight.
Flavor: Sweet and rich.
Color at ripeness: Yellowed green to yellow-brown.
