Swamp Rose Mallow

Light Requirements
•    Full sun (6 or more hours of direct sunlight a day) to partial shade (2 to 6 hours of direct sunlight part of the day). Warm temperatures within these lighting zones actively promote essential bud and flower growth.

Soil Preference
•    Requires moist to wet soils featuring high organic matter content.
•    Thrives in loam (silt), sand, or high organic media textures.
•    Highly adapted to severe moisture conditions, easily handling frequent standing water, occasional flooding, or occasionally wet drainage.
•    Prefers an acidic (< 6.0) to neutral (6.0–8.0) soil pH range.

Wildlife Benefit
•    Pollinator Forage: The giant, fragrant 10-inch blossoms serve as an active nectar source that attracts hummingbirds and butterflies.
•    Avian Diet: The resulting fall and summer pubescent seed capsules open to provide local birds with a reliable food source.

Human Uses
•    Landscape & Water Design: Reaches 6 to 15 feet tall, acting as a massive accent, specimen plant, or small grouping feature around ponds, stream edges, bogs, marshes, or riparian settings. It is highly utilized in rain gardens, water gardens, and pollinator beds.
•    Nighttime Sensory Gardens: Because its massive blossoms open uniquely at night and remain highly attractive in the moonlight, it is a premier choice for nighttime garden themes.
•    Patios & Containers: Well-suited to function as a large, dramatic container plant on patios.

Resistance to Challenges
•    Environmental Tolerance: Exhibits exceptional natural resistance to wet soil parameters, brackish water, and saturated ditch environments.
